pfrederi 18,471 #2 Posted May 19 Have you tried adjusting high speed mixture too lean can cause surging Governor initial set and sensitivity

wallfish 17,715 #4 Posted May 19 Most common cause of rpm hunting would be carb/fuel related. If you can use the choke to even out the rpm and stop the hunting, it's fuel restriction from the carb. (The choke used would be matching air to fuel ratio) Clean it thoroughly and it should solve the issue.

peter lena 9,165 #9 Posted May 19 @nigel have any fuel filters on that ? drop the fuel bowl , if its loaded with debris , its probably fuel hose break down , also fuel tank related , have a seperate gallon jug just for running in any carb issues , heavily treated with cleaners , easy to hook up to fuel pump , and run the engine in that separately , tune / adjust , with verified clean uuel , carb issues grow if not addressed , you are on track , pete
