JCD 76 #1 Posted May 18 I had some trouble starting my 312-8 and finally got it started with some starter fluid, I know it's not good but it was all I had. The throttle was all the way up but it sounded like it was just idling, throttle lever position made no change. I looked around while moving the lever and noticed the cable sheath was moving, the m shaped bracket had come loose and wasn't holding the sheaths in place. I got it working by holding the lever down to make it run like it was full throttle and tightened the screw, everything worked fine but it seems like there should be a nut on the end of the screw to tighten down against the plate to keep the screw from backing out. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing a nut or something else that holds the cable grips in place, mine loosened after a short time mowing. Thanks, Jim

JCD 76 #3 Posted May 19 Yea you're right, was hoping to hear what size it would be but I guess I'll just grab a handfull of random sizes and try till one fits. Thanks.

peter lena 9,165 #5 Posted May 19 @JCD ever get any penetrating oil into that cable set up ? make the rust run out ? typically add an elastic lock nut , to questionable start/ stop spots . have also regularly added , small extension springs to my cable ends , for a pull to close assist . always have a spring / hydraulic oil insure consistent cable slide ease , pete
JCD 76 #6 Posted May 19 Yes I got penetrating oil in the cable sheaths as the choke was reluctant to move initially. Now I hope a locking washer and nut of the back of the screw will keep the cable holder in place. Thanks for the nut recommendations, I'll give them a try.
