Starter Solenoid

Recommended Posts

A buddy of mine has an older Kohler Powered tractor (Not a Wheel Horse). The Soleniod is bad on it. He went to Autozone and got a Soleniod for a Ford F100, the lawn mower parts place didn't have one. I think it will work. :scratchead: The Kohler solenoid has one small post in the center that goes to the safety switch. The Ford solenoid has two small posts marked "B" and "I".

I think the wire going to the clutch safety switch needs to go to the post marked "B", and not use the post marked "I".

Would this solenoid work, (for very long)? I told him I would order the proper Kohler solenoid to be on the safe side.

Yes you have it right use the "B" terminal. The "I" terminal is used for Ford ignition.

I have one on my K181 and never had any trouble.

yes the ford solenoid will work, I have replaced all my solenoids with the ford ones, they seem to be able to stand up for more current draw. a 302 ford requires more power to start than a 16hp kohler with comp release. not to mention there usually only $7-10 not $15 for one from tsc and god only knows how much from kohler!!
