Wheel Horse Identification

Recommended Posts

Greg64

Hi,

This is my first time on the forum.

I have a Wheel Horse garden tractor that has a Kohler K321S engine, based upon the engine nameplate.  It was my daddy's; and, he left it to me.

The tractor, itself, has lugged rear tires, headlights, what appears to be an electric clutch for operation of the mower (dash refers to it as a PTO), cigarette lighter, hydrostatic transmission, power lift for mower deck and 3-point hitch, and the previously mentioned three point hitch.  It also has a sheave arrangement for drive a belt driven tiller.  I'm fairly certain it's at least 30 years old, if not considerably more.

Could someone direct me to what the model of this garden tractor might be; as, I can find no markings for that.

Thanks,

Greg

Welcome, if you have a picture that would be helpful.

With that engine and a three-point hitch the only thing I can think of is a GT14.

If you are posting using a Smartphone, take a picture of the tractor. Where you see the paperclip below, click on the "choose files" link, and add the picture that you took. Pretty simple.  Having said that, my guess is that you have a GT14.

If it has 15" rear wheels, it is a GT 14.  If it has 12" rear wheels,  it could be one of several models, spanning several years.

I agree with the rest of the bunch - pictures would be helpful.

If it looks like the one pictured below it is a GT-14. There should be a model number plate3 below the hood on the dash stand. With that number we can tell you what year it was manufactured.

Thank you for the information and greetings.  Based upon the photos provided by others, I think I have a GT14.  However, next time I'm near the tractor, I'll try to snap a few photos.

I've seen some GT14s that have a front end loader.  Was the loader manufactured by Wheel Horse?  Is it fairly easy to locate one; or, are they a "needle in a haystack"?

Thanks,

Greg

I can't answer specifically whether that one was made by Wheelhorse. I know there were a couple aftermarket companies like Arc and Johnson that did them. Not exactly common.

Others will probably chime in with more info.

Wheel Horse didn't manufacture their own loaders but did offer "Allied Equipment" that was well suited to work with Wheel Horses. My GT-014 has a Johnson Workhorse loader. Any appropriately sized loader will work With the proper sub-frame to support it.
