Racinbob 11,916 #1 Posted May 4 I may have the opportunity to grab on to a NOS 42" side discharge deck shell. I have a 42" rear discharge with some rust holes. I was kinda planning on welding some patches but swapping the parts over to an unused deck sounds even better. I would do it in a heartbeat if it was rd to rd or sd to sd but rd to an sd shell? Have any of you tried this? I'm pretty certain the carrier parts would be fine but the rear wheel adjuster seems questionable. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
JoeM 8,275 #2 Posted May 4 I know the deck rigging brackets are different. The 42 side and 48 side are the same, but the 42 rear brackets are different. I might have a set I can send you. Racinbob 11,916 #5 Posted May 5 I'm starting to think it's not worth the effort. There's just too much different in the gage wheel department. Also the rear discharge doesn't have the two anti-scalp wheels. I'm back to my original plan. Repair the one I have. The rust holes aren't real bad. Thanks guys. daveoman1966 3,839 #6 Posted May 5 If you want to solve FOREVER the rust problem, make a STAINLESS STEEL liner for the deck...as I did with my 1990 (est) 48" deck. Fairly easy to do... (1) remove ALL the hardware...strip to just the shell. (2) Use a piece of cardboard to make a 'template' of the bottom of the deck...marking ALL cut-out for bolt holes, spindles, etc. (3) Transfer that template to a thin sheet of SS and make the cut outs. (4) Cut the SS sheet 1" wider around PERIMETER than the cardboard template. (5) Cut a 5-6" wide strip of SS for the 'front' panel of the deck---drill a few holes and solid mount it to the bottom side front panel. (6) using a ballpeen hammer, form the SS front panel to the radius at corners. (7) Bolt the cutout SS sheet to the bottom side and ball-peen hammer the corners in a way that overlaps the bends of the front panel at corners. (8) mount spindles, gage wheel axle, and all other lift hardware. PRESTO--- Deck will last forever. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
