RED-Z06 2,567 #1 Posted May 4 Got a B43 onan, 1108 hours, uses no oil, no leaks, ran it 5 hours and drained the oil..0 metal, nothing in the filter, heads were pulled and the scant amount of carbon removed. The sheetmetal was removed, cleaned, painted as was the flywheel. No signs of any rubbing, all hardware is intact for the guides. So, it makes a tinny sound from about 50% throttle to full speed, doesn't get better or worse with heat..34psi on startup, holds 30psi when hot at just off idle. Valves have been adjusted. When shutting off theres no odd noises, and its very quiet at idle, part throttle. The oil pressure and lack of debris makes me believe its not a serious problem, therez no vibrations. It sounds more like a rub than anything but i inspected the entire flywheel that was painted and there was no rubbed areas. Im thinking maybe piston slap? Im going to do new points, condenser, plug wires tomorrow..maybe its an ignition/timing noise.

Probably should have mentioned, replaced the drive on the oem starter, and then replaced the entire starter (it was worn out), without any change. That was actually why I had the engine back out and was able to look for rubbing. My p218 in another tractor is the opposite, it is quiet up top but is mechanically noisier at low idle.
