DWB 0 #1 Posted May 1 With the plugs out, and not connected to the hydro pump, will the starter turn the engine over fast enough to register oil pressure on a gauge?
wallfish 17,581 #2 Posted May 2 It should pump oil so you may see some movement on the gauge needle. That's still a pretty low RPM What are you trying to accomplish? If the gauge is working or if the oil pump is working? Or? I have that same engine on a Roof 60 tractor and the engine runs with a working oil pressure gauge so I can check stuff like that for you. DWB 0 #3 Posted May 2 Just reassembled one with a new rod and new piston and rings. Would like to verify the pump works fine before starting it.

What about using the old filter and poke like a 1/4" a hole in it. Run the starter with the plugs out and it should pump oil out. Just catch it coming out of the hole. Just kinda think'n out loud for a way to verify it's pumping. I can pull the plugs on mine and see what the pressure gauge does just verify if it indicates pressure. It would be tomorrow later afternoon.
