Tommy G 1 #1 Posted April 30 I have a 1987 312-A. Added straight 30 weight oil to the small reservoir as suggested and still having a problem. After about 2 minutes of flat, straight cutting at a steady pace the forward motion slows for a few feet then picks back up again, steady then slow. Slowly in reverse is fine. I bought a trans fluid filter today at a Toro dealer, but the manual that I have doesn't show or say anything about changing the filter on a 312-A. Can anyone think of a possible cause and resolution for this problem? Thank you for your time
oliver2-44 10,781 #2 Posted May 1 You tractor has the Eaton 700 transmission. It does not have a transmission filter. Was it doing this before you added the oil?
mrc 961 #3 Posted May 1 oliver2-44 is right. 312-A has the eaton 700 tranny, which has no filter. the eaton 700 is not recommended for ground engaging attachments. 312-H has the eaton 1100, which does have a filter. the eaton 1100 is a robust tranny and is recommended for ground engaging attachments. sorry i cannot be of more help.

No, that is very helpful, and also yes, that's what I thought reading the manual and not seeing any mention for a filter. Before actually looking for it on the tractor, I went to a local Toro dealer for straight 20 oil for the trans. I was told to use 30 weight and change the filter. I added the oil to the 1 3/4 level and after running it a bit it seems to be working fine. That hesitation going forward wasn't happening, so far, so good. I'll be returning the filter next week. What are ground engaging attachments? Thank you again for your time

Yes, after adding oil to the recommended level it seems to be running normal. Thank you for your time and response

mrc 961 #10 Posted May 5 wheelhorse had their tach-a-matic system. this was an exclusive way to marry the attachment to the tractor. so starting in 1973 until the end of production in 2007 all the tractors accept all the attachments. virtually any attachment for a 'C' series will fit any 3, 4 or 500 series tractor. and you can add the tach-a-matic system to many of the pre 1973 models. i know because i added it to my bronco 14. so imagine you bought a 1975 'C' series with a mowing deck at the dealer. in 1985 you buy a snowplow, 1995 you add a tiller and finally a snowblower in 2005. and it all mates up perfectly. try that with most other brands.
