Aftermarket and Alternative Spindles

G'day Red Square Brainstrust,

I'm based in Australia and attempting to restore a 417-A tractor with the 18" side discharge cutter deck. I'm having great difficultly finding genuine or aftermarket spindles to suit the cutter deck. 8Ten and other suppliers do not freight to Australia. I'm considering using off brand spindles that may be more accessible in Australia e.g. John Deere, Cub Cadet etc. and retrofitting them. Does anyone have any experience with this can could they suggest options? I'm pretty handy with fitting and welding, so minor modifications would be no issues.

Cheers,

Presuming a typo, you must mean a 48" side disch deck.  I have good used replacement spindles for it.

They have limited corrosion, but the bearings are true with no wobble or slop.  Here is a SAMPLE pic of what I think you need. NOTE---The center shaft does NOT have a keyway slot   48ms04.jpg.0a54848b42486a321c6872a06d30ac37.jpg

Check into this  new aftermarket supplier.  They have  complete kits for replacement.   You can contact them online for fitment.

I would think if you replace all three spindles at one time with new ones they would work on your mower deck!
