Wheelhorse gas question

FLtractor

Evening,

Have read online somewhere that the 1966 856 has a factory gas tank of 1.5 gallons. Been looking for non ethanol gas near me and only place is a WaWa about 10 miles round trip. Debating if I should take an old plastic can- regular gas - air it out and use that.. or just get a whole new plastic can for the non ethanol fuel. Would it even make a difference, considering the tractor has had regular gas used for at least the last 4 years by previous owner?

There are a few different things you can do to minimalize the damage done to aluminum carbs by ethanol fuel.

I won't mention them because it's far smarter to avoid ethanol gas to begin with...

@FLtractor You can up date to the new no spill tanks. I did this last year and some this year. I like them a lot. Very handy to have. You do not need a screened funnel this way to poor the fuel through. I think if you try one you will like them. Just my :twocents-02cents:.

I would imagine that more than likely the customer pumped ethanol fuel before we purchase our non-ethanol fuel for our carburetor engines and that we are going to get what ever is left in the hose.  Certainly this little dab of ethanol won't hurt anything.

I remember about fifty years ago while riding my motorcycle I didn't think I had enough gas to get home.  In our little town the only gas station, owned by Jim Mathis a family friend, was not open on Sundays so I drained the residual gas from the hoses of the gas pumps and managed to make it home.  Back then 50 or 75 cents would fill a motorcycle gas tank.

Ha, we used to do that as young kids just to get gas for go karts and mini bikes. We did NOT know the owners of the gas stations though.LOL  And back then they had those long hoses to reach the other side of a big boat Oldsmobile so you got plenty out of it too.

You all started your life of crime at an earlier age than I did!   I had forgotten about the LONG hoses.

Funny thing, we didn't really see it as crime and more like being innovative. Something like it was already paid for by the customer but they didn't get it all so we weren't stealing it. That was the reasoning anyway. LOL

Likely a liability insurance requirement.

OR- if I was employing a bunch of knuckleheads, I'd probably make sure they used all the possible safety stuff.

Well I had some old gas cans so I always used a screened funnel to poor fuel in the tank. I do like them so far..

I like these.  I got 2 used, on marketplace, for $30 & $50.

I use a $15 battery powered gas transfer pump to fill from them.
