RED-Z06 2,489 #1 Posted April 20 B43 Onan, had sat years, it was pretty nasty but prior to cleaning it did somehow run. I took it apart, removed mixture screw, top part, pilot jet, float, needle, it all went into the hot sonic tank for 8 hours. Came out, blasted it all with spray, then air. Looked new. Tractor has all new lines, filter. Started up, ran fine...used it about 3 hours no problem. Next day..starts up and surges. Pulled the cap off, pulled pilot jet..clogged. wire it clean, blow it out, blow out its hole...back together and runs like new again. Next morning...starts up and surges. So ive repeated this about 4 times, i never see any debris, carb bowl section is spotless still. Hate to scrap an otherwise nice carb, but this is getting frustrating, it never does it in operation, only after it sits a bit.

lynnmor 7,620 #4 Posted April 21 Does your carburetor have a welsh plug right above the idle mixture screw? If it does, did you remove it to clean out the dirt in there? Be very careful removing it so you don't cause damage inside, a new aluminum welsh plug will be needed.

It does have that, i was hoping not to have to dig it out, the last one i did that I removed it kept popping out no matter how well i set it in there. I have to pull the engine out to replace the starter so ill be able to get back down into the carb too.

Using a punch, that is flat on the end, tap if lightly using a small hammer and quit when it grabs the sides. I like to put a very small amount of Motoseal 1 on the edge of the plug before installing being careful to not get it inside. I do agree that the welsh plug should be left alone but after several attempts to make the carburetor work it is time to remove it.
ri702bill 9,067 #7 Posted April 21 I use a couple of light coats of clear nail posish to seal the diameter of the plug to the body....
