2004 520xi bad engine. What's it worth?

Hey all, went to change the oil in the old girl yesterday and it was FULL of metal. I mean, I never seen so much metallic flake in oil before. I believe she is toast. You swirl the oil around it looked like shiny and milky. Best part is, fired right up and ran like it wasn't hurt at all before the oil change. And I'm sure it would run the same if I put new oil in it. Kohler ch20s with 1200 hours. I do not want to even try to rebuild it or replace the engine, I just do not have the time anymore. I have 4 acres and it was becoming a task to mow it all with this rig anyways, so I am upgrading to a bigger/faster zero turn. Not to mention random things going bad all the time needing fixed or replaced.

Anyways, I'm wanting to sell it as whole, not separate anything. I just don't want to deal with parting it out and selling a few things making the other things useless. Everything works on it besides the bad engine (even that works, for now).

  • 2004 520xi 1200 hours, going bad Kohler ch20s, only missing front red cover. Everything else works great. Normal wear for 1200 hours.
  • 52" deck in decent shape. Had some holes and cracks, but they were patched, welded, and painted. Missing the front middle antiscalp (broken mount).
  • 1 Complete snow plow blade, never used by me but was used by original owner, in good shape. Model 79355
  • 1 almost complete snow plow blade, was used for parts I'm told. It looks to be a bit older model number 79350. Great shape Has all the main bits, not sure what is missing.

What's it all worth? I'd be fine with not getting too much for it, I'd just hate to send it to scrap and do not know what to ask for it. I can add or take some pictures tomorrow, it is still mostly torn apart from me beginning the yearly maintenance.

2024 520xi 1200 hours,

The 520xi was produced from 1998 - 2006. Please check your ID tag for the correct year.

Not up to date with the values of the later tractors, but some one should be along with a good estimate. Pictures will help a lot.

A new engine would be $ 2,500 for the Kohler or a grand for the predator so any potential buyer won't want to spend a whole bunch on a roller with a bad engine. You could probably be able to get a couple hundred for the roller and a couple hundred each for the deck and snow plow.  :twocents-02cents:

I purchased my 520Xi running and mowing for $500 with 650 ish hours on it.  I may have gotten a stellar deal, but that may be a baseline for you.

Depending on your location, I may be interested in it as a project.  We’ll be rolling the Turnpike out to Chambersburg/Gettysburg for the Big Show in June…

I figured. It is probably worth more in parts than to actually put an engine in it and use it again. Which I'm fine with it. I would just absolutely hate to scarp it. I enjoyed my time with it.

I am north of Pittsburgh. Kittanning area about 30 minutes north of the turnpike. I also have the original purchase receipt and manual. I even have the safety VHS:lol:. I thought I had the manual for the Deck too. Would have to look more.

Added photos to the original post!.  The tractor itself will run and drive as needed. It ran before I drained the oil. I just have to put new oil in it and the new filter on to do so. I stopped everything when I saw the old oil. Deck I had cleaned and pressure washed. I was ready to pain the underside like I do every year. I have the other side panel, its just on the ground from when I changed the fuel filter and removed the oil filter.

Plows look to be two separate models. Looks to be older but in fantastic shape. The one that was actually used on this mower looks amazing, its just a bit dirty. They haven't moved since I bought my house, this mower and plows came with it. I know the previous owner and they did plow a bit with it. I'm not sure what to extent. Mostly snow on an asphalt driveway.
