HELP! 520Lxi - stalling when warm fuel starvation

Recommended Posts

Almost like a timer, about 30 minutes of run time, engine stalls like it is running out of fuel.  You can delay the issue by adding choke but it will still stall out.  If you let it sit, you can get another 3-5 minutes out of it.  When this is happening, there is still 12v at the fuel solenoid, and the solenoid is still clicking when manually connected and disconnected.  I cannot find any fuel pump to test (I must be blind) as the tank is lower than the engine.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot.  I do not want to explore ignition coils and pickups just yet as this issue is seemingly a fuel issue.  Also I confirmed the engine is not running hot or overheating.  Radiator and hoses are at proper temps.

If I remember correctly the fuel tank vent hose is very long and snakes back and forth across the top of the tank. Any chance it got pinched?

I removed the gas cap and drove it.  Still stalls.

We used it for most of 2024 season and towards the end of summer it decided to begin having this issue.

Both my 520Lxi and 522xi needed to be primed with starting fluid to get them to pull fuel.  I would say 7 seconds of misting.

Electric fuel pump is on the base plate near the bottom of the radiator on the left side. You can see it from the right side if the side cover is off.

I have also seen the port on the tank clogged up. might want to blow air back through the fuel hose???
