B-80 Snow Blade and/or Blower Info....??

Recommended Posts

Crow Horse

I have a B-80 (1-0141) and I'm getting started into looking at what options are available to me for snow removal.

The Conditions:

My "driveway" is about 200 meters long, unpaved (read- rocky) and on an incline. We get some pretty serious amounts of snow. Icy conditions frequently exist and on occasion the only way to negotiate the driveway on foot is to wear creepers or Korkers.

Fortunately, a neighbor with an ATV does the heavy plowing for me in exchange for hunting on our property. I would like to be able to do as much as my Horse will do to lessen the load on him.

I'm looking towards using v bar 2 link chains on both front & rear and have ballast in the tires.....

The Questions:

What is the range of interchangeability for the snow blade and snow blower attachments for the B-80 ??......

Is there anything else I should do to the tractor to help with the winter chores ??.....

Any info, help or experiences will be much appreciated..........

*Footnote - I've been reading & searching for info till my eyes bleed or the info exceeds my cerebral RAM. I then have to shut down and start all over again....... :scratchead:

There are a lot of things that will work with your B-80. Check out the interchangeability chart. Located here.

Just download the pdf and you can see all of the attachments that will work for any Wheel Horse. I use it all the time when looking for attachments...

But I would say for your driveway, I would bypass the dozer/snow blade and start to look at a blower for it. I just picked one up this spring and haven't had a chance to use it yet but I am sure it will do a good job.

I too have a pretty long and wide driveway where I need to move a lot of snow and the blade just didn't do what I was looking for it to do... Although it is great for small amounts of snow...

Good Luck! :scratchead:

Although the blower does a better job of getting the snow gone and far away from the driveway you may find that the 8HP on yer B-80 is working real hard to get it done. I use a 416-H (Onan 16hp twin) with a 42"single stage blower with no HP issues. I have used a 42" blower on a 12HP hydro and it would sometimes bog the motor down in deep or heavy snow which promted me to go with a bigger motor.

Heres a pic of my blower in action.

With the distance that the snow is being thrown, I have to ask, was the basketball hoop already down before you started or did you blow that bad boy over? LOL!

Pretty unbelievable that is a single stage snow blower throwing THAT FAR! Truly amazing!

The b-ball hoop was allready down :scratchead: ! This particular snow was powdery and only about 4-5" deep so it tossed really well. With the 16 Onan it never seems to loose RPM's with the blower engaged even in the deep stuff. Thats where I think an 8HP would struggle.

It will be interesting to see how the 8 horse holds up. If it doesn't fair so well, I think i might switch out the 8 horse with a 10 or 12...

You can do it with 8HP, but it helps if you have an 8 speed or Hi/Low model.

Take the lowest gear & take it slow.

With a 3 speed you will be rideing the clutch a lot to slow things down.

Here's a pic of me chucking snow with a 7HP Lawn Ranger last winter.

I've since made some tire chaine & converted it to an 8 speed so looking forward to useing it again this winter.
