Chipping away at my Stallion

I'm down to the final piece! The bonnet. 

Rattle can feels a little empty, so I go down to my local store to pick up another can to find out Regal Red is no more!! Of course that has to happen when I need about 1 more can.

 

Found a similar colour to do the underside, but full run out by the end of the first coat of the outside. The question now is, do I only have one coat thats the right colour, or do a 2nd coat of a slightly off colour and then it wont match any of the other panels?

If you can't find or order anymore of the right color, then I suppose leave well enough alone. Looks good as far as the picture goes.

Its a bit blotchy, so really needs another coat.

I'll try and see if an panel beater paint mixer can mix to the same colour first, and then maybe consider just leaving it as is. Its had multiple coats of primer so it wont be rusting!

Back on the wagon! Now that winter is over, and I have some more enthusiasm for life, I'm back into finishing the repaint.

 

Managed to find someone in Australia with the right colour paint, so bought up 4 tins just to be sure!

 

Seat pan has had a couple of coats of clear, and I'll put one coat on the bottom side for shits and giggles.

 

And the bonnet got a much needed 3rd coat. I'll have to mask off the black section and get that painted next.

 

Now to remember how it all went back together!!

Bonnet is finished with colours. Will throw down the clear coat this week, and then put it back on!

Yep! I bought the whole sticker set.

I think I remember where most of them were.

 

I'm just giving it a few extra weeks to off gas the clear layer before putting the stickers down.

Two layers of clear is making it a lot shinier.

 

You can see the pitting unfortunately, but too late to fix that. If I had my time again I would have spray putty before priming, and I wouldn't use the Rustoleum paint.

@Red Stallion   easy to get a local , metal shop  to  enhance  that solid  belt guard , also the  main drive belt  , rusty  / dry  idler pulley , looks toasted , and  the rusty  swing lever arm end on both  sides of the  consoul , lubrication would help it  function  better,  looks like a need for  some  maintenance   is due , pete

I have a horizontal mill, and considered cutting slots. Its right on that limit of my patience level, and right now just want to get it back together.

 

Might still pull that pulley and give it some love.

 

Which bit do you mean by the swing lever arm both sides of the console?

Disaster of a time with the stickers.

The clear coat didnt stick to the paint, went to adjust the long sticker, and it lifted right off, and stuck to the sticker (sorry decal).

 

So went for one and done approach. 2nd one landed straight, reglued the first one that is off by a few mm. But the font sticker is miles off, and has two creases in it.

 

I can predict a future in about 2 years time I'll be taking it all off and doing it again.

 

If I was wiser, I should have bought two sets of stickers because I pay downunder tax on the shipping.

Also, can someone identify what these are for?... could be for the bonnet mounts.... could also be for one of the other 5 projects that I have going on at the same time

@Red Stallion if all that u has left over you've done well . I have no idea but I don't own a 520...YET.

They are spacers that go between the seat bottom and the adjuster tracks, you need 4 of them.

 

The hand push sticker goes on the fender to the right of the seat assembly.

Thanks... no need anymore as Ive replaced the seat and rail setup, and needed to fabricate a spacer between the spring rail and the seat track.

 

Also managed to get some rubber grommets that fit perfectly over the seat springs!

 

New seat is on, found why the side panel was fouling with the clutch (engine bolts loose) and nearing completion!

 

PS also put a bunch of scratch getting the seat on. Ive reached the point of not caring and just want to get it running again.

I'll go to the top of the hill and use that to test the brakes, steering, etc.

Should be obvious before the first bend!
