k-91 flywheel/starter cup question

i removed starter cup from flywheel and between cup and flywheel face was a lock washer. my question is, is it supposed to be there? i cant find any diagrams on it. i have the kohler type single pawl recoil. thanks!!

Right off hand I would say no. I'v never found one on any of my K-91s. 

Lock washers generally are found right under a nut.

Sometimes the recoil (depending on different recoils) used on a k-91 requires adjustment of the cup depth to have the recoil dogs grab better.  Never saw a lock washer used but you sometimes use what you have to do the job.
