tmorriss 3 #1 Posted May 19, 2024 I have this 1987 312-8 21-12K804 which has been in family since it was new. I just recently wore out the clutch friction disk. I 'think' the part number is, or was 946650 I just a want to get out of this as cheaply as possible(a good used one, or cheap new one) as I only use this tractor sparingly to mow certain areas (because it's so dang indestructible!) 8ntruck 7,848 #3 Posted May 19, 2024 Toro bought Wheelhorse and continues to provide some parts support. I believe that there were two different PTO clutch diameters. You might want to check the diameter of your current clutch and compare it to the new part. You might want to check the spring clip that is on the outside of the bearing in the PTO pulley. Sometimes, they will come out of the groove in the shaft that goes through the pulley bearing. If this has happened, the clutch will not engage or slip under load - both symptoms of a worn clutch disc. Is there still friction material on the clutch disc, or is it worn away. While you have the PTO clutch apart, take the time to remove the two bearings in the pulley, gently remove the dust shields, clean the old grease out and replace it with new high temp grease such as Red 'n Tacky. I think it is a Lucas product. The Lucas green grease is also another good choice. Clean the roller bearingsand grease them too - not too much grease, or it will get onto the clutch disk. peter lena 9,281 #4 Posted May 19, 2024 @ @tmorriss remember ROTATIONAL DRAG is what wipes out / kills those discs , how easily does your PTO drive belt move that deck BY HAND ? there are 12 related bearings and 2 idler pulleys that regularly start binging up and fail . once I did the change over to one deck , and verified the easy movement , did the other 2 decks , if you want to eliminate the problem , you have to make a change to what's there , the smooth easy movement ,is really amazing . repetitive failure will show you the way , nothing sarcastic intended , also a lucas green lover , stay greasy , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
