Hello 👋 

I've got a question  I have a 18 hp Onan engine on my welder it's been sitting inside for 5 plus years now I've got it out I've taken the carburetor all apart and cleaned everything else and put new oil & filter on it and then I tried to start It and it started and then it shut off I had looked and saw the oil filter blew off. Can you tell me what could of happened just by it sitting ???

Oil filter blew off!! Never heard of that before. 
 Could it have had water in the crankcase, it froze, and busted the filter

I'm guessing something wrong with the filter and not the engine since you mentioned it was just changed. It's building oil pressure.

There was aGREAT article online a few years back, regarding bogus counterfeit Auto Parts. Those clowns spend MORE money on the packaging than the product. Brake pads made with sawdust & glue, an old soupcan used as the shell of an oil filter - that did blow apart....

I would say faulty filter never heard of that happening either.
