Cjwv1975 73 #1 Posted May 3, 2024 Just got a C160 back together. Fiddled with the carb some but dont think I have it tuned yet. Anyway while testing a mower deck on it the muffler and pipe turned white. Tractor ran fine. Is this a sign of too rich or too lean or just paint burning off. Its a Kohler k34. Fordiesel69 271 #2 Posted May 3, 2024 Paint burning off. Loosen main just until it runs rough, then tighten in very slow and very carful 1/4 turn at a time till it smooths out. That will be good enough. I like mine a touch on the rich side so the head and ex valve is cooler (at the expense of more carbon).

ri702bill 9,348 #4 Posted May 4, 2024 Agreed - too lean can burn the valve.

You can wire brush it now and recoat using black stove paint (brush works fine) and it won't rust.
