Leaky K181 8 HP CARB. Ideas needed.

I've got an original 60s carb on one of BBT's engines that leaks out the bottom of the bowl.

I had an original old aluminum bowl on there.

Swapped it to a steel B & S replacement like I've often done for other folks.

I adjusted the float downward a bit.

Still seeps.....

:bitch:

What dahekk am I missing???

Hmm…  bowl gasket, bowl nut gasket.  Pitting on carb where bowl presses to carb?  Bowl is replaced so assume no pitting there.  Also I assume it’s not a slow leak from above it and running down from like a worn needle or seat?

I have had the same problem. New bowls, new gaskets still leaks. A coating of Permatex Aviation Sealant on both sides of the bowl nut washer seems to have cured it.

I had leakage at the bowl nut. the standard fiber washer in the Kohler kit has a 3/8" hole. The Tecumseh washer has a 5/16" hole. Seals much better.

Tried Tecky gaskets too. Still had leaks. Only thing that stopped it was the Aviation sealant.I think they started making the washers out of a harder material.

I'd try a copper crush washer on the bowl nut. I did that once and it worked.

This was one of my thoughts too.

I'd agree with that.

Good ideas men. Thank you.

I'll get some sealant on there and get a smaller gasket washer, both.
