Volvoman 1 #1 Posted August 27, 2009 Would anyone here who owns an early 953 with the complete, original headlights, including backside bracket, light buckets, and lenses, be able to post some photos of these parts? I have a 953, but these pieces are missing. Knowing what they look like will be most appreciated. Thanks very much in advance for the assistance. Vvm. Juggler 7 #2 Posted August 28, 2009 Ok, it isn't a 953, but here is a pic of a 1054 I picked up a couple weeks ago. You may have to "lighten" up the pic a bit to see it. click to enlarge A couple more, might be able to see something. click to enlarge Hope these help! Volvoman 1 #3 Posted August 28, 2009 Juggler, thanks for your posting......but the -early- 953 headlight setup is different from that of a 1054. The -late- 953 is the same as a 1054. What I am hoping to see is what the light setup is like on the early model 953. This would be a great time for one topic to include photos of both of these headlight variations. Anybody here on Redsquare have an early 953? Vvm
WH953 0 #4 Posted August 28, 2009 I'll look at my 953 tomorrow and see what they look like.
WH953 0 #5 Posted August 28, 2009 My 953 head lights are the same that Juggler sent pictures of. I posted a request about a month ago for 953 head lights. I need the lenses for mine. Have you checked with GlenJeri on this site? He is listed in the vendor section and may have the information you are looking for on the earlier 953 lights. Volvoman 1 #6 Posted August 28, 2009 Yes. About two weeks ago, I corresponded with Glen about the lenses. He has them available for the 953, as well as the different style used on the 1054. I purchased a set for my 1054 about a year ago, but the 953 I have has nothing at all in the empty headlight location. What my 953 needs are the light buckets and brackets. From Glen, I will buy the lenses. But, I'm not sure what the early 953 headlight bucket is like. But, I know it is different from what is shown on Juggler's photos. And, I suspect that the rear mounting bracket is also different from that used on the late 953/1054 tractors. From what I have been told, the original style headlights were constructed in a way that left the original lenses susceptible to dropping out easily and being lost or destroyed by the mower blades. If so, it would make sense that a good many of the original buckets and brackets used on the early 953 tractors were retrofitted with the later style used on the late 953 and 1054 tractors. Therefore, not many are still in existence and that would explain why most of the 953 tractor photos to be seen on the various WH websites have the later style headlights. That said, I'm pretty confident someone reading this post has one of the early 953 tractors with the original recessed headlights still intact. There are probably quite a few owners of 953 tractors who would like to see what they are and would perhaps find a way to improve on them without changing the external appearance of the tractor. Volvoman 1 #8 Posted August 28, 2009 Glen, Thank you very much for adding this helpful information to the discussion. Exactly what I am sure many reading this were curious about. Do you have any plans to reproduce these bezels for sale along with your reproduced lenses and gaskets? Vvm
GlenPettit 1,717 #9 Posted August 29, 2009 Vvm: There just wasn't any market for them, only sold one pair on eBay out of six different listing times, and then that went for a lot less than I expected. The ones in the picture are 'seconds' (air bubbles, etc), just a very difficult item and high spoilage; so no, I won't be remanufacturing these again.
