If the tractor and/or deck have been modified, it can be any number of things. But if you're running the stock size tires and have a 1990 or newer 520-H and are having problems you'll need to post some pictures to show us the problem.

Most likely is that the front axle of your tractor is not matched to the deck size. 1990 and newer 520's (and 1988-89 520HC's) have a "forward swept" front axle that allows them to run the 60" deck w/o contact b/t the front tires and the deck. 1988-89 "standard" 520's have a straight axle which will cause exactly the problem you describe.

Post some model numbers and/or pictures and we'll tell you what your next step should be.

Steve

Well it all depends on the individual. As stated before from the great info that was given, you don't have the forward swept front axle to give you the proper clearance from a 60" deck. The largest deck that yours will handle is a 48" deck.

Options:

1. Like you said.....put the blower back on it.

2. Search Ebay or post in the wanted section that you are looking for a forward swept axle and the proper spindles that will accompany that.

I may be missing something and others will chime in and fill my voids but this will hopefully get you started in the right direction.

Maybe SMALLER wheels and tires on the front :thumbs2: . Just my .02 cents.....

If the deck is in really great shape and you have a large area to mow, I'd side with those recommending you switch to a forward swept axle....JMHO!

There is actually a 520HC forward swept axle on ebay right now that will be ending tonight around 9:30 p.m.

Or just deal with perry on here directly........he is the one selling it as well as the spindles that you would need. I am sure he would be more than willing to help you out.

Good luck!

It may work, but then none of the belt part numbers would be of any benefit to you. Any and every attachment that connects to the mid hitch would be affected.

In addition, clearance with the rear tires can become more of an issue than clearance with the front.

I'd go with the swept axle, or drop back to a 48SD deck. The smaller front wheels (15/6.50-6) might be enough, but you'll need the taller spindles as well.

Good luck!

Kevin

personally, the eBay swept axle that Jim posted about was a bargain at $125. If it were me, I would "downgrade" to a 48" or get the new axle.
