bell 11 #1 Posted August 24, 2009 Made the trip North today to pick up the 33E Lawn Ranger I bought from Steve (wh500special)... Other than being a little hard to start, this thing runs AWESOME!!!! I have some different tires on the way and will start a thread in the next week or 2 on the project....

bell 11 #4 Posted August 24, 2009 Thanks fellas! I wanted something with the original, weathered paint... I think I found it! Just have to fix the hood seam on the left side and try to match the weathered look... Looks like somebody tried to weld it with a stick welder over the years... I will probably be selling the wheels and tires. The rears are soaking in PB as I type this. They are stuck on pretty good, but with a little patience, I think they'll come off... :thumbs2:
bell 11 #5 Posted August 27, 2009 half way there!!! I grabbed a pair of wheels out of the shed and put them in the electrolosis tank... Then, I gave them a quick blasting... I always paint the inside of the wheel first, mount the tire, then mask and paint before beading the tire up... seems to work pretty good. The first wheel came off pretty easy... the other one, however, was a PITA. But, it finally decided to break loose. I found this pair of Goodyear Super-Terra 23x8.50-12's and knew I would use them on something. They have very little dry-checking, but I found out the beads were in pretty bad shape when I dismounted them. I cleaned them up and CAREFULLY mounted them with a new set of tubes... I raised the fenders a bit and put on a good seat with a cover. I need to run to the hardware store and get a shorter carriage bolt... I'm heading out now to knock the bearings out of the "new" front wheels and drop them in the e-tank to get ready for the tri-ribs...
Red Iron 1 #6 Posted August 28, 2009 That's going to be a great tractor, good transformation so far! :thumbs2:

acsousa82 5 #11 Posted August 28, 2009 Thats a serious Ranger. Very sweet! The first wheel came off pretty easy... the other one, however, was a PITA. But, it finally decided to break loose. I fear the day I have to remove the rear rims on my Ranger :hide:

bell 11 #15 Posted August 28, 2009 Thanks fellas! I borrowed the puller from dad... He has a EXTENSIVE collection of "odd-ball" pullers. Comes in VERY handy! Terry... Location, location, location.... :scratchead:
bell 11 #16 Posted September 2, 2009 Thanks E! I finished up the front today... E-tanked, blasted and painted the wheels... Swapped in some L O N G E R spindles... Mounted up the tri-ribs, put on some new caps and grease zerks... I hate to say it, but I'm really starting to like this Techy... It's a sweet runner, when you finally get it started... Any ideas on why it's soo hard to start? I'll eventually tear the carb down and clean it... change the spark plug and see what happens. Next on the list is to remove the fuel tank, cables, etc.... polish the tank and change the leaking gasket.
stevasaurus 22,291 #17 Posted September 2, 2009 Nice looking tractor, Jon. I know what you mean about the Techy's, I am starting to get attached to mine on the 502. I think it is the satisfaction of getting them to run, the kohlers are just to easy...not much challange. :scratchead:
sorekiwi 761 #18 Posted September 3, 2009 Any ideas on why it's soo hard to start? Its hard to start because its a Tecumseh!! Seriously though, all the Tucky's I've had (only 3!!) have run really well, they just havent started well. My 654 has a recoil start HM80 in it, and if I set the high speed mixture to where it runs best, then it wont start (hot or cold). If I richen it up 1/2 a turn from there, it starts on the second or third pull every time. Playing with the idle mixture doesnt seem to do anything for the starting issues... Looking good Jon, where'd you get the tri-ribs? I'd love to find some 4" tri-ribs for the front of mine, then I'd put 8" Ags on the back.
bell 11 #19 Posted September 3, 2009 Thanks fellas!!! The tires came from Morrow Tire on ebay... I have bought from them several times and the service is EXCELLENT... bell 11 #21 Posted September 16, 2009 Today, I made an extension for the right side foot peg (stub)... I rummaged through the scrap pile and found a piece of tubing that JUST fits over 3/4" bar... It's from a Suzuki Samurai center link of all things... It fits the bar PERFECTLY... had to tap in in with a hammer. I added a couple plug welds so it wouldn't come off. I swapped out the damaged Good's for a pair of nearly new Carlisle 23x8.50's... It is basically DONE... until I tear it down for a re-paint this winter!!!!
