502 clutch

I ended up with a 502 today,but the clutch will not desengage.with the tractor running you cannot put it in gear.any suggestions. thanks502001.jpg

Do you have a belt guard on it?...without it the clutching action won't work correctly.

Is the drive belt OEM or a proper length to disangage?...if it's to tight it won't disangage & I've seen a few old Horses with wrong sized generic cheapy belts on them.

Once your past the obvious & if your still haveing problems I'd look into the clutch/idler pulley & make sure it's working correct.

havent torn into it yet.it does he belt guard on it.should it have a little play in the belt??

the tension pully tightens the belt...after you have tried the above, try cleaning the pullys with mineral spirits...the pullys need to be able to slip when the clutch is disenguaged...do not use belt grip on the belt, it is all about the tension. :thumbs2:
