Daron1965 644 #1 Posted February 3, 2024 My 312 is put away sleeping in the back of the shed. I can’t easily get to it. Can someone please tell me the diameter of the front spindle? Is it common 3/4 inch? I plan on ordering new rims for the front because of damage. thank you.

ri702bill 9,462 #3 Posted February 3, 2024 (edited) Should be 3/4" - IF nobody replaced it with a later 1" HD setup. Easy to tell - one retaining clip or screw on the spindle - 3/4" HD would have a castle nut and the rim is held on with 4 lugnuts. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,499 #5 Posted February 3, 2024 Do you have 6" or 8" front wheels? Believe the 312's came with both. 6" allows room for the 37" 2-spindle mower deck.

Very good point if you are replacing wheels. My 312 Hydro came with 6" wheels and the longer spindles. I switched it to 8" wheels and left the longer spindles to get more clearance under the front axle for the snow plow frame. I never had a 37" deck, but the 42" deck works fine. The tractor frame is not level sitting higher in the front .
