formariz 11,987 #1 Posted January 14 So I have this small “ chopping” block that I use on top of bench to do adze or hatchet work even to many times just make some kindling so I don’t damage bench. Decided to adapt it to my small anvil station which also puts it at a better height and consolidates it to one area. It works really well being also having a very solid feel. 8

Wayne0 419 #6 Posted January 31 What's the block made out of ? Doesn't look like Oak or Maple, but i could be wrong. It's happened before.

I really have no idea and can’t really tell by looking at it. I know that it is from a tree cut in the property about 30 years ago. It was actually made as a block for a wine press and then eventually made it to my bench. It is extremely hard. May be some type of hickory since most trees here are.
