fourwheelhorseman 355 #1 Posted November 28, 2023 My steering shaft is wobbly in the area where the throttle cable and choke cable are mounted, the very top ( not sure what that particular area is called) but I have the exact same model in hydro, how does one go about fixing that? The gears are good on both models, but it appears the gear that is on both shafts is welded on the steer shaft on both models, so I can’t simply pop a pin out and pull the gear and pull the shaft, it looks like I may have to take the whole steering wheel shaft, and housing that has the levers on it on both models and switch them. I doubt I get the pin to pound out that holds the steering wheel in.. any suggestions? I hope I’m making sense?
ebinmaine 72,798 #2 Posted November 28, 2023 If I'm reading that right what you want to know is if you can swap the whole upper steering tower and dash plate from one to the other.

Not if.. but how, I know I can do it.. if I’m looking at it correctly it seems there are 4 bolts that hold upper panel in, then I’d simply have to pull ignition switch and choke and throttle cables as well as light switch? Ami looking at it correctly?

That whole upper section should come off the tractor holding the steering wheel and steering wheel shaft. 3

Should take too terribly long to switch I spose. Thanks!

When you get in there messing around make sure you check your best options if you have more than one of something. Both tractors probably have the same ignition switch as long as they were both Kohler engines. Choke and throttle cables will switch back and forth. Get all that stuff undone and see if one moves better than another, etc.

I may be able to unstick them, but I don’t know if it’s worth the trouble the donor tractor also has a new ammeter that I will salvage, as I’m missing the one on my 8speed. When I’m done with it I’ll be selling the hydro and hydro lift control. All else will be spare parts for my 8 speed.
