Moparfanforever 726 #1 Posted November 18, 2023 I bought this Cub 1650 probably two years ago because it had two sets of Cub wheel weights on it. Guy I bought it from said his dad bought it new. Dad passed, Cub sit in a shed for twenty years and the guy got it out and would not start. Threw parts at it,chinese carb ,coil ,points. Said it started and ran for about ten seconds and would not start again. Usually to get a Kohler started you either need to clean points or rebuild carburetor. This thing is getting plenty of fire and fuel and will not start. I rebuilt a Kohler carburetor, new coil, new condenser,new Kohler points, about six different spark plugs, adjusted valves, coil is wired right, seems to have good compression with finger over plug hole. Every once in a while it will pop out of the muffler. I have never seen one, but has anyone ever seen a Kohler shear a flywheel key??I need to pull the engine anyhow to check for mouse nest and head gasket. Could the ACR have anything to do with it?? Well OK then I guess Flywheel key wouldn't have much to do with it on that engine even if it was sheared. Have you tried shooting some carb cleaner directly into it? Skip the entire fuel delivery system to eliminate anything there, or find out if it is suspect Was the plug wet after trying to start it? The finger over the plug hole is a quick test and it should blast air past the finger seal pretty easily. ACR does work with the exhaust valve so popping through the exhaust could be a clue. wallfish 15,933 #5 Posted November 18, 2023 It would or could affect the charging system but not the ignition timing on a K series with a battery ignition. It would probably start without a flywheel on it at all but not recommended. If the engine was opened before could the timing be way off? Maybe look at the timing.
