W/H 516-H

516-H sometimes slows to a crawl.  If I move the motion control lever to reverse and back it up, it usually moves at a good pace, but soon reverts back to a slower speed again.  I'm thinking there could be something in the motion control lever slowing the speed down... any others experiencing the same?  Any recommendations for a fix?  Thanks.

Is the MC lever not staying in the full forward position?

Ed,

Correct... the MC lever will NOT stay in the full forward position, it drops back to a slower speed.

Common problem and an easy fix.      Just follow Lynns instruction.

The 516-H uses the 700 series Eaton.

For the 700, get and read this manual.

The motion control (MC) linkage is nearly entirely the same parts but arranged slightly differently and the adjustment as well.

If your 516 is like mine, the linkage from lever to trans can use a good inspection and possibly repair. I had to also replace the cam and ground on it for a faster reverse. The Eaton 7 works much better for me on 15E-50 synthetic. She'd overheat on 20 weight. I do keep the clamping force on the cam on the loose side as I mow with lever in hand. She's just a bit too worn to lock in position, especially considering my up and down yard. Gets the job done.
