The 80's Work Horse is the same as 300 series with different engines and paint. The wide rear wheels was a bonus on GT 1800.

Unfortunately the wide wheels were long gone from this one when we got it.

And an Eaton 1100 transmission with hydraulic lift and a twin cylinder engine.

Should have faster gearing than, say, a 416H.

I only ever drive it a little. It's definitely faster than my C160 Automatic by a noticeable margin.

A few days ago I brought the starter to my local small engine repair shop so they could sell me a replacement gear.

While there he offered to "throw it on".

In just a couple minutes that was done.

Yesterday Trina got the hydro lift valve out.

Next will be to clean and rebuild the replacement one and begin reassembly.

Here are a few pictures to help Trina out.

I remove the single screw on the back of the valve to pull out the control rod leaving the snap ring and springs in place.

The rod now should easily pull out the front side of the valve (really easy if the O rings are worn).

At this point you can remove the O rings from the control rod. I use a brass pick but just do not scratch the rod.

New #111 O rings ready to install.

I have used Nitrile in the past but found they can swell and make the valve hard to move so I now use Viton.

I lube the O rings with silicone grease then push it back into the valve.

Install the screw and washer into the end of the rod and securely tighten.

I do not touch the pressure regulator in the valve.

Now you can transfer the cylinder hoses to the valve making note of their placement on the valve because if you mix them up the valve will operate backwards (don't ask how I know).

The valve hoses use #905 O rings and the supply hoses use #906 O rings.

I have never seen a valve fail, just leak due to worn O rings.

Handy Don and me were discussing those control valves today at The Big Show.

He mentioned to me about not messing with it, unless a person has the skills and tools to reset the pressure adjustment.

Handy Don

When I added two circuits and a pressure relief valve into Clyde (a 520/518 hybrid; Eaton 1100), I was fortunate to find a friend with the tools to run a proper pressure test on the full system. We were able to calibrate both the old and new relief valves per spec in about 10 minutes.  Right tools, some skill, and the tractor already largely disassembled made the job straightforward!
