Stuck roll pin in starter.

Usually these pop out with a punch but this one is being stubborn. Been soaking in PB blaster. So other than drilling. What have you done to remove these pins? 

Also what vendor would have these pins im guessing I might end up drilling it out :/

It is easy to see that you've FLARED out the end of the roll pin.  That's what happens when using a flat end punch.  The special ROLL PIN punch has dimple on the end to prevent flare-out like this. Auto parts stores will have roll pin punches in sets for $20 bux or so.

I got a Craftsman set about 15 years ago....for $20 bux.  Use them a lot.  Be sure to get Made in the USA if you can.... or somehow make sure they are HARDENED good steel.  Some from China are JUNK!

Looking online for the ones I bought are theyre based out of Australia. I didn't see any bad reviews and lots of good things to say.

IMHO that particular "penetrating oil".. doesn't. 

 

 WD-40 PENETRATING OIL or  Liquid Wrench PENETRATING OIL. Note the caps. 

Both companies sell various products. 

Kroil is probably the cats meow but it's over $20/can now. 

 

 

To drill that pin you'll need a carbide or cobalt drill bit.

When driving out a roll pin, make sure that you have whatever you are trying to remove it from backed up with some type of "anvil". Any movement in the device while striking the pin will take away power needed to push it out.

Should be able to get a new roll pin at any hardware store. They are a common size.

That is likely the reason he was having difficulty, there doesn't seam to be any rust holding it.

Roll pins have a split down the side which will cause the drill bit to leave the center and they are hardened and will kill a drill bit.  You need to support the shaft while driving the roll pin. Cut a "V notch" in a piece of hardwood to lay the shaft in and use a roll pin punch.

I mean.... If it works I'd say its worth it.  I am not putting it on the rocks with some tonic ans a lime slice!  Its helping me soothe my horse  OUtta last a minute as well right?

Did you need a whole gallon?  An eight ounce can at Ace Hardware was about $ 20.00 a few months ago.

I see that oil on Amazon. I might get a small can. I do tend to like my PB blaster ( cheaper and works well)  but the oil would be good for this situation.

Wally world sells a 16.5 oz can of kroil for about $32 delivered. 

Once you get that and try it you'll see there's no comparison to your current product.

WD 40 penetrating oil is $16 for a big can..32oz i believe. Sticker shock!!
