The new seat will have to have a cavity in the foam rubber to insert the switch into. Most new replacement seats are already equipped to accept the switch. Just use a small screw driver to open the clips on your switch and pull the switch out. This is what it looks like.

It unclips (the 2 clip prongs of the lighter color plastic) from the metal bar. Hopefully your plastic isn't so aged/hardened that it breaks - Then you just slide the switch out through the larger hole - It's basically a long strip of plastic holding 2 metal contacts (one of which is a bit longer and arched)  If you are discarding the old seat, it is often far easier to cut the seat cushion away from seat pan (Or, just slip off the edging  which is basically a plastic enclosed metal clip squeezed together to fasten it securely to the pan, and you can save the cushion for a replacement for later) Otherwise it can be difficult to slide out the old switch .. if the plastic clips of the switch are hard and brittle, a little heat from a hair dryer or heat gun can help soften the plastic a bit so as to separate the clip enough to unclip from seat pan without breaking clips.. I'd do that anyway because it's hard to tell if the plastic is brittle until it is too late!  Alternatively take a dremel tool with cutoff wheel and cut the narrow metal part that the plastic clips to.

Great question and answer. I never knew there was a long metal strip like that up in the seat.
