oldhorse2 3 #1 Posted August 12, 2023 I am the original owner of a C-120 (purchased in 1996). Yesterday, after mowing and then stopping the mower, I attempted to restart the mower by actuating the PTO lever and the mower didn't start. The mower belt turned freely by hand, but apparently the drive disk wasn't engaging. I adjusted the trunnion (about 2-3 turns) until I got some engagement, and the mower ran intermittently. I haven't disassembled the PTO yet, but am wondering if this is usually caused by worn/missing lining or something?

8ntruck 7,858 #3 Posted August 12, 2023 The hoop that goes over the PTO pulley has a bracket on it that is connected to a small shaft in the PTO pulley. The PTO lever moves this hoop towards the engine, which causes the bracket to push on that small shaft, which pushes the pulley to engage the clutch. Sounds like this happened all of a sudden. Two possibilties: Check the roll pin that attaches the bracket to the hoop. If this pin is broken, it will cause the issue you are having. A hardware store spring clip will get you back up and running, but the proper fix is a spiroll pin from your local Toro dealer. The Toro part is a spring pin rolled with 2 pavers of steel, while the hardware store pin is only a single layer. There is a C clip on that small shaft at the bearing in the pulley. If that C clip has broken or come out of the groove in the small shaft it will also cause the issue you describe. If it is one of these, you will want to undo that last adjustment you made on the trunnion after you make the fix. Good luck and have fun.
