TC10284 113 #1 Posted August 8, 2023 Does anyone know if it's alright to run a 211-3 with Briggs 11HP without a battery? Will it cause any damage to the charging system if it jumped off and ran without?
WHX?? 51,360 #2 Posted August 8, 2023 I wouldn't . Battery is often a part of the electrical circuit.
rjg854 12,019 #3 Posted August 8, 2023 I'm not sure if it would run without a battery in it, and it having some power in it.
Gasaholic 271 #4 Posted August 8, 2023 Won't hurt charging system on those to run without battery. Just make sure your battery cable ends are taped up away from making ground contact so as to not short it out just for safety, or you may possibly blow out the diode otherwise. If it had a voltage regulator on it (Which I doubt it does) then you might want a battery hooked up to it, even if it is a junk battery, although even that wouldn't hurt your charging system if you only ran it for a little while that way.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,388 #6 Posted August 8, 2023 It will work if the charge wires are not connected and capped so they do not ground on chassis metal. Make sure you isolate the ignition wire because if it sees any battery voltage it will go up in smoke. Keeping this wire connected will allow the ignition switch to shut it off.
