Barry Dunmire 1 #1 Posted July 23, 2023 Newly rebuilt engine blowing oil out the valve cover vent hole, is too full of oil or is it the breather assembly?
oliver2-44 8,877 #2 Posted July 23, 2023 Checking the oil level is the easy place to start. But I would suspect the breather is installed incorrectly. If I remember correctly the Kohler manual has a good diagram of how it should install. 2
wallfish 15,959 #3 Posted July 23, 2023 Could be either. Over full is easy to determine The breather reed valve needs to be installed properly 2
wallfish 15,959 #4 Posted July 23, 2023 If oil starts leaking from the governor shaft too, that's a sure sign of too much crank case pressure and the breather valve installed incorrectly is the most common cause of that condition 5
squonk 39,011 #5 Posted July 23, 2023 Who rebuilt the engine? Ring gaps all lined up will cause this also.

moe1965 723 #8 Posted July 24, 2023 Just curious which way does the breather face. I just removed mine on my 8 hp and the little hole to drain oil was on the top o assumed it was install the wrong way and put it on the bottom. Also I believe the reed is correct the round hole was facing the engine and the reed thin strap or metal was facing the outside
