417A cranks but won't start update

Hello everyone,

Here's my latest update on my 417A issue.

I changed the oil out of concern of contaminated fuel. I also replaced the plugs. She did start but blew a lot of black smoke out of the exhaust. I pulled the air cleaner and she ran better but was spitting some fuel out of the carburetor until I idled her. Has this become a carburetor issue? I think I am getting close but need some feedback. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. The points, condenser, and filters are all in good shape.

Regards,

Bob

Hey Bob,

That sounds more and more like the float. Cleaning the carb might be the fix unless your float has developed a hole in it or the tip of the jet has worn to the point that it won't seal off the fuel being pumped into the bowl. Is that within your capabilities or will you need more guidance?

Also, it might help if you just respond to your original post so the thread stays together for folks to get the whole picture.

  • Thanks 1
