ya beat me to it! yep I would say the same thing. Try to stay in the 4:1 or less ratio for best belt grip.

Do I understand correctly that you are running a 4:1 ratio on a single stage snow blower (i.e. the engine pulley is 4x the size of the driven pulley on the blower)? Or are you talking about the complete ratio from engine speed to final auger speed? 4:1 seems unbeleivable.

I just tested my single stage for the 1st time tonight. It cleaned up nicely but didn't throw too far. I am guessing that my blower didn't orginally come with my tractor and no one properly set it up. It didn't look like the P.O. ever used it. By the way, I have a 3" pulley on my engine PTO.
