TheMooseIsLoose 8 #1 Posted July 8, 2023 Hi, I am wondering if anyone has installed skirts on the front of their mower deck to keep the debris from blowing out the front of the deck. My tractor has a bagger with an attached belt driven blower housing. I am considering rubber or some type of broom bristle type material that can be bolted on. I will have to make two 12" long x 4" pieces to go between the front rollers. Has anyone ever bought or made these for their wheelhorse? It would also help keep debris from going into flywheel intake.
JoeM 8,175 #2 Posted July 8, 2023 I put one on a mulching deck and it did not cut right. Pushed the grass down and choked the air flow under the deck. I suppose it could have been left up a bit and may have helped.
Ed Kennell 41,404 #3 Posted July 9, 2023 Is the deck set correctly front to rear? You may try lowering the front a bit.
Lee1977 7,142 #4 Posted July 9, 2023 If you could find a good solid 1976 or 1977 deck shell they were not cut higher in the front it may help. I used my 1977 deck with a vacuum for leafs, but I mow throwing in to the unmowed area. There may be other models, don't know when they started the shorter front. I have a 1985 deck and it's shorter in the front. I did add a reinforcing bar around the 1977 deck as they bend easer if you hit anything.
TheMooseIsLoose 8 #5 Posted July 9, 2023 I will look into checking deck height and lowering front if necessary and investigate deck shells. Thanks for the advi 11 hours ago, JoeM said: I put one on a mulching deck and it did not cut right. Pushed the grass down and choked the air flow under the deck. Ed Kennell 41,404 #8 Posted July 9, 2023 (edited) Go to the manuals section and download the file for your deck. Follow the instructions to adjust the front to back level of your deck. The front is usually set 1/4" lower than the rear. Edited July 9, 2023 by Ed Kennell

TheMooseIsLoose 8 #10 Posted July 9, 2023 To All, I keep my deck high 2nd notch from the top to cut grass, this is I believe why I have all the blowback from debris and dirt coming out the front prior to going out the vacuum. I checked it is level
