buckhornbob 13 #1 Posted July 3, 2023 It happened in the winter while I was recovering from eye surgery - I hit a lump under the snow and relocated the main shaft of the snowblower. My neighbour, a very handy guy, was able to get it operational for the rest of the winter season but ... when I broke a shear bolt and was installing a new one, I noticed about 1/2 tp 3/4 inch of play in the shaft as it goes in to the worm gear assembly. This amount of play also shows in the large sprocket and cam misalign the chain. There are two metal clips on the shaft between the worm gear assembly and the "WA-Impeller". I cannot find a reference to these clip in the parts manual. They can be seen in the pic below. For those more knowledgeable, a few questions: are these clips needed? if so, is there a way to install them without removing the augers? Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can share. wallfish 17,658 #2 Posted July 3, 2023 Have no idea what those clips are. Take'm off Is the "play" you're talking about straight back and forth in and out of the worm gear? Or is the worm gear assembly moving? The bearing on the back behind the large sprocket should be holding that shaft steady and the 2 bearings (bushings) on each side of the augers. Those end bushings can be replaced with real 4 bolt flange bearings https://www.surpluscenter.com/Bearings/Cast-Iron-4-Bolt-Flange-Mount-Bearings/?page_no=1&fq=ATR_Bore_Fractional:1\"&fq=ATR_Lock_Collar:Set\+Screws Do not get bearings with a lock collar as they will not fit. Set screws only and you'll need to drill the mounting holes
