C-160 42” Deck Restoration Cont’

Recommended Posts

RoubaixRider

Well, after the painted cured enough (Rustoleum Sunrise Red) for reassembly over the past week, I treated the project to some new carriage bolt hardware and have new decals on the way from Terry at “Redo Your Horse”. Fun little project. Thank you to those who helped me with some questions along the way… All that’s left is replacement of the idler, pulley, and a new belt and spring. I’m going to put new blades on…the old ones look ok, but one of them is a little dinged up. The Nylon bushing plate part with the belt tension device was shot…going to simply machine one out of a small strip of Old nylon plastic cutting board.  Almost seems strange to have gone to all this work for a deck that I actually plan on using a couple times a year, but that’s what these were built for right!?🤓

Speaking of machining - I was cleaning and prepping the 36" deck for the C81 a while back and noticed a fair amount of play in 3 of the 4 bushings at the ends of the side arms. They seemed to be about .015 too long, made of powdered metal that does not cut well on a lathe, even with carbide. Whipped up 4 new shorter ones out of 4140, with a grease undercut in the middle....
