ilovemy1974b80 28 #1 Posted June 26, 2023 I am making a new frame and making some things stronger for my wheel horse. Because of the frame differences the inside part of the frame is not wide enough for the original steering. Do you have any idea for steering? This is the frame don’t mind the welds I’m a beginner welder
Pullstart 66,672 #2 Posted June 26, 2023 What’s the thickness of that angle iron? You could massage a clearance with smooth transitions like a | ( ) | shape…
Pullstart 66,672 #3 Posted June 26, 2023 Also, if you want to make sure your new frame is as strong as you’d like, it may pay off to practice on similar thickness pieces until you are satisfied with the penetration and quality of your welds. Clean steel, quality grounds, smooth movements, good settings on the welder, all good things to get used to for good strong clean welds.
ilovemy1974b80 28 #4 Posted June 26, 2023 Since I took that picture I practiced and my weld are looking pretty good
ilovemy1974b80 28 #5 Posted June 26, 2023 I’m not sure how thick the metal is
peter lena 9,246 #6 Posted June 26, 2023 @ilovemy1974b80 since you are at the perfect spot / time, might think about laying in a steel length fuel line , inside the angle point of your frame , would extend it , a foot / more/ less , and cap it off , then as your build grows , you can also plan clear vinyl fuel line . fuel filters , to your build . eliminating black hose fuel breakdown . BTW , i have some 3/8 thick angle steel , from back in the day , talk about bombproof . grabbed it out of a dumpster . front flex plate / frame to trans , can / should be overbuilt / strong , pete

I’d be sad to hear that the taller and wider angle is flimsier than stock…

If you were concerned the oval notch was a weak point you could put some vertical pieces of flat bar behind the notch area. What are you planning to use the tractor for that you are building a custom "stronger frame"?
ilovemy1974b80 28 #12 Posted June 26, 2023 Yes I’m more of strengthening the frame and stuff so I can put more weight and a loader and 3pt
ilovemy1974b80 28 #13 Posted June 26, 2023 I added the supports for the steering column and the lift
