Onan air cleaner "thingy" what's this for

Recommended Posts

Docwheelhorse

Hello all,

Hope to see you in PA in a few days...

So @Sparkyand I have been working on our fair share of Onans lately...

What is the purpose of this "thing"--the yellow plastic piece, some of the 16 Onans have it and some not. The 20 I recently brought in to work on doesn't have it.

Thanks

Tony

Air diverter?  Force the filter to work as a whole?  Noise reduction?  Just ideas…

Maybe it’s a “Woah Horsey” mechanism?

I'd call it the deconfoogulator.

I think you could run without, but better get it back on when you go noodlin' fer catfish. 'specially when comin' ferm all the way up thar.

Hope you get a biggun'!

Could also be the anti-quarter-twenty attachment.  No loose nuts getting past that thing!

The earlier ones had the deconfoogulator, then they dropped it when disconfoogulating fell out style.

:eusa-think: makes me wonder if the confoogulated engines run as long as the properly deconfoogulated models.

Anti-spit back plate.  Onans get alot of reverb on throttle up and when the governor opens.  The plate stops the fuel that gets spit back from accumulating on the filter lid, filter base...because it hits that plate...vaporizes and gets sucked back in...it also aids in throttle response.

Possibly, but why did they stop using it about 1990?

Introduced the new carb with the accelerator pump?

The accelerator pump models were introduced in the mid 90s as stated above.

Its hit and miss.  My 1991 Deere 420 onan had no plate, but the replacement engine did.  The 1993 416-H didnt have it, my 89 Deere 316 didnt have it.

I prefer them

The pump came out about 6 years after the deconfoogulator era ended.
