upstate yank 219 #1 Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) well guys I am here again with the issue of my 12 horse kohler with the gas issue ; I did send a notification a few days back but no replies have shown up so it could be that I did not click on to send it but anyways 'so I asked the million dollar question ;could it be the carb that is causing the issue as gas poring out of the breather in the front of the block or is it the fuel pump as I have been told it could be one or the other ;but as the old saying goes we spend 100 dollars to find a 5 dollar part' again as I mentioned before I have tried 3 different carbs and it does the same thing ;when I bought this 1970 elector it ran fine up to one day it starting to pour gas out of the breather not the carb breather ;so I bought a used one from a dealer on the evil bay and I have bought from him before and the items were always great so I do not blame him for selling junk as that carb came off the same 12 horse that I have now; and yes the same issue with the gas issues so again back the evil bay I bought another one ;and yes the other 2 that I bought were the walbors ;my question is why can 3 carbs cause this problem as out of 3 you would think that one will work properly ;then I was told it could be the fuel pump 'so again scratching my head which item is causing the problem with the gas pouring out once I start it and yes the oil was drained and so much gas came out ;so again I am between a rock and a hard place I will not try to start the motor till I can find out if it the carb or the pump so again I ask your thoughts Edited May 17, 2023 by upstate yank

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,454 #3 Posted May 17, 2023 I can't see how a carb would flood enough to fill the crankcase with fuel. If it did it would be running out the front of the carb air filter. My guess is the fuel pump diaphragm is leaking.
953 nut 59,858 #4 Posted May 17, 2023 Did you rebuild one of your carburetors to be sure the needle and seat are working and properly adjusted? Did you test the fuel pump for leaks as I suggested in the other post on this same problem?

My thought was that if the needle is not seating there could be raw fuel coming in contact with the valve stem and going down the guide. If the fuel pump were leaking enough gas to come out of the breather cover as gas rather than diluted oil/gas mix the fuel tank would be emptied. This person keeps asking the same questions but never posts the results of the tests we suggest in his in his multiple threads on this problem.
