mattsoltesz 0 #1 Posted July 29, 2009 Hello everyone! I am new to the site...I never had a problem with my Wheel Horse 520-H untill now. WHen I go to start it....nada. No clicking, turning nothing. I "enhanced" the operators manual wiring diagram to reflect the colors called out on the schematic. HOWEVER, some wiring, such as the 9 pin connector to the engine harness - at least on my 1988 520-H are black. I have taken the liberty of coloring the diagram to reflect the actual "function" of these black wires for readability sake. Enjoy. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

(Sometimes I think WH must have hired teh handicapped e.g. color blind as the wires n the tractor are not always the color in the published diagrams.) This was my first thought - motion control lever. Mine gets me about one out of every 5 starts - lol! Also, there's a fuse in the fuse block that could be blown - had that happen once too. mattsoltesz 0 #9 Posted August 25, 2009 Ok Im stumped now....I checked the motion control swithch, the seat switch, the drive switch. I dont know how to test the three relays. There is power to the solenoid, when I turn the key no power to starter. All the lights are on, on the dash and the oil light blinks. Would it really not start from the oil pressure switch? Is there an easy way to get it....I figure that the fly wheel would have to come off. Any suggestions? :thumbs2: Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

There is power to the solenoid, when I turn the key no power to starter. Sounds like you've found the problem. If you're getting 12 volts to the small wire of the solenoid, then the solenoid is the problem, and may need to be replaced. One thing before though- Make sure the solenoid body is properly grounded. Sometimes rust will develop between the solenoid body and the tractor frame, which will open the circuit between the hot wire and ground. Kevin Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
porkchop 1 #11 Posted August 26, 2009 I had the exact same problem on mine when I turned the key nothing but the headlights would go dim if on when I tryed it. It was the neutral switch that had rusty terminals where the wires plugged in. There are also 3 fuses to check and make sure they or their plug in,s are not rusty.I could jump accross the solenoid and it would start.You can jump accross the safety switch or mower switch with a wire by making the circuit as per the wiring diagram. You need to jump from the small terminal on the solenoid to the large connection where the battery wire attaches. Then if it does not crank the engine, you have a bad solenoid. mattsoltesz 0 #14 Posted August 28, 2009 You mean the small terminal where the light blue wire is attached?? When i first jumped the two large ones teh whole engine turned over. After a few times just the fly wheel was spinning...the locking pin is still in but it just spins around the crank bolt.....ill have to pull it off and see whats going on.
