Speedex S18

I have an S18 the problem is there is a brake for the pully on the trans, it is bolted on the trans and is hooked up by way of a spring and a rod that goes to the foot pedal. This has the sliding engine the way it's hooked up when you push the pedal forward it moves the engine forward takes up the slack in the drive belt and moves, but it also looks like it puts tension on the spring to apply the brake for the pully on the trans. The problem I am having is with the pedal back and the tension off the drive belt the pully still is rotating and wants to go when you put it in gear. The pad on the brake is worn out. does any one have any ideas on how this system is supposed to work. Im about ready to give up on it and just sell it. the engine runs great so I hope some one can help. thanks in advance Jesse

It's been quite a while since Speedex's lived here, but I can't say I remember a clutch brake on the S-18 I had.

Are the pulley grooves clean and are you using a "power rated" (fabric covered) drive belt?

I'm thinking there was a belt guide or two bolted to the engine to help push the belt out of the groove. If I can find my old pictures, I'll see if I can offer more help. :thumbs2:

Yes there is a clutch break I have had the tractor for 2 years it worked when I first got it but the pad has worn out and it wont stop so you can shift it into gear. I could try cleaning the pullys and see if that helps but they look clean and shiny.
