Big Stevemo 3 #1 Posted May 7, 2023 My engine was acting like it was out of gas. But runs with choke on. So I limped it back to shop. Checked fuel flow. It was not good. Blew air through line into tank. It flows good now but still won’t run without choke. Can I pull the petcock out without taking the tank off? What else should I check? Big Stevemo 3 #4 Posted May 7, 2023 Yeah thanks guys. Bunch of rust looking crap in bowl. Don’t know where it could have come from unless previous owner had rusty gas can. I would like to take the tank off but the Phillip screws on the top won’t budge. Are there inserts in the plastic tank? Drain as much as you can from the tank and then get a good grip with Vise Grips and it will pull right out. remove the rubber grommet too. Use a bit of oil to aid the installation of the new grommet and valve. If you want to remove the tank leave the petcock in the tank while doing it. You can remove the rear fender, clean the area where the brace is bolted to the transmission and take out the two 3/8" bolts. Once the tank is off the tractor you can slosh a bit of gas or denatured alcohol around in the tank and dump it out the fill er hole. May need to do this more than once.
