mower engagement handle problems

Recommended Posts

The mower engagement handle will not stay engaged for more than ½ a minute.

I have a 1990 520H tractor with a 78345 Mower Deck It looks like where the handle goes through the side plate and over to the engagement rod every thing is wore.
Is there a way to bring it back to life?

Looks like both of the white plastic bushings are spent and out of place, replace them.  I bought my last ones and from McMaster-Carr, I believe they sell black ones now.

One thing that has been a help for me is to make sure the rod that attaches at the PTO goes up through the connection point and not down through. Helps to have that up through when the lever cams over.

Just to clarify, you're talking about the front end of the PTO rod, so the trunnion sits below the PTO plate, and the cotter pin sits on top?

I don't think I've ever seen it that way, but you say it helps?  Worth a try, just to see what happens.
