ericforster 69 #1 Posted April 30, 2023 I was offered a 246h for $200 yesterday. It has no deck, no battery, no oil filter, no fuel line, no nipple on fuel tank, and the ignition switch was removed and it looks like a push button was installed on the side of the dash tower. It does have a single stage snow blower and both the tractor and snowblower appear to be in decent shape.I appologize that I dont have pictures as of now. What should a 246h be worth in this condition?
rmaynard 16,343 #2 Posted April 30, 2023 I personally would not pay anything for it. Everything that you would have to buy to make it back into the lawn tractor that it once was would cost you more than $200.00. Just my
ebinmaine 72,922 #3 Posted April 30, 2023 Given that the 246H is a LAWN tractor. ... Not a GARDEN tractor... It's value is inherently less than garden tractors of the same year. Because it's a Hydro transmission and does NOT run and drive you have to assume its a scrap transaction unless you know and trust the seller. The snowblower would have some value itself and it too would be less than a snowblower for a comparable year Garden tractor snowblower. IIFF the seat is great (NO cracks) and the tires are on very good condition it's worth about $100, $150 in parts. Otherwise.... 2 minutes ago, rmaynard said: I personally would not pay anything for it. Sparky-(Admin) 23,249 #5 Posted April 30, 2023 Keep the $200 in yer wallet and continue looking for a proper Wheel Horse garden tractor. The 246 is just a lawn mower with bigger wheels. And the one you saw sounds like it’ll quickly turn into a money pit with no chance of any return on your investment. 7

I have always believed it’s hard to imagine someone blowing an engine AFTER they blow a transmission. In heating and cooling, if someone told me “you need a pressure switch and gas valve” I’d tellum’ “pack on down the road buddy.” Generally a break down is caused by one thing that stops it dead, and it is stopped for good.

Your logic is sound but the public is... Not. It could have easily been parked BECAUSE the transmission was bad... Then sat... Then Joe q. Nephew tries to "get it going again" not knowing why it won't start after 3 seasons of ethanol setting. Takes off 3 parts and 6 wires. Didn't work so walk away. Just waaaaaay too many variables in a machine that can't be tested.
