PTO V Belt for Wheel Horse 308-8

Recommended Posts

John A

I would like the part number and size of the PTO V-Belt for my 1986 308-8 Wheel Horse.   This should not be difficult to find but I have not been able to find a listing on any of the sites I have used.  Are all the PTO belts on the 300 series the same size?

Thanks,

John A

The pto belt drives an attachment and the belt is considered part of the attachment. So what is the attachment? If it is a mower deck what is the width of cut and side or rear discharge?

Thanks for the reply.  The attachment is a 37" mower deck with a side discharge.

OK so now another question. The 37" deck used two different belts.

The first one was 6-sided looking like two belts back to back. Deck model 05-37SC01 and a page on how the belt is routed. This deck uses all V-belt idler pulleys. Click on the mower deck pictures to see the belt number and size.

Deck model 05-37SC02 uses a regular 4-sided belt with flat idler pulleys.

@John A would also suggest doing a thorough belt pulley  rotational check , for lubrication and rough  noise . that combination is like dragging a lead sled , for wear and noise . very tough ol pto drive clutch

Peter Thanks.   I apology for this late reply.

Interesting, the belt on my GT Classic is listed on the PTO Schematic diagram, while the belt for the 308-8 is listed as part of the cutting deck assembly.  I have a 37", side discharge deck.   The belt for the GT Classic is 103".  I was able to find this belt on the shelf at my local Tractor Supply Store, after ordering the wrong belt on Amazon.   As you probably know, the Classic GT deck has its own separate belt.

The belt for the 308-8 is about 140".  Unlike the GT Classic, the belt on the 308-8 goes around all the pulleys on the cutting deck and then to the PTO.  Somewhat confusing to me, the first-time a round.    Previously I replaced the 2 blade pulleys on the 37" deck and some other assorted parts.    I started looking at all the pulleys associated with the 308-8 PTO.  The two in tandem pulleys I will replace as the one has bad bearings that are rough when spun by hand.   I also ordered the small bearing in the PTO clutch.  It is very rough when spun by hand.    This bearing is on order, but there has been at least for now a delay in receiving.  Frustrating as I was led to believe the part was available.   I should know more in the morning.  When all the PTO parts are at hand, I intend to replace the PTO/deck belt, the tandem pulleys, PTO bearing in the front of the PTO clutch.  The other bearing, sitting within the clutch pulley looks good.  I will add some additional grease.

I agree with you about worn parts.   I think the new parts will make a big improvement on reducing the (non-work) resistance of turning the blades.  The engine is original, and it struggles at times when used for cutting.
