The first 308-8 had a backwards paint scheme. 

 

It fits your description, but wasn't Work Horse. Seems these came around the same time?

This was posted on fb earlier today...the decals look original and the paint is red underneath

I'm not about to say that isn't original. 

 

...but I see black frame and pedals, and no "transaxle" on the rear fender pan below the front of the seat. It only takes about two years of sunshine to do that kind of fade and decal destruction/ weathering here in the south. Unless someone here can find factory pics of red Work Horses (not counting implements, because they were in fact red), I say Frankenhorse. 

 

 I have been wrong before, so it's just an opinion.

That was the argument made on fb also...however, the text on the decals is red, on the workhorse it was grey.

True, but custom decals aren't that hard to come by.

 

...and if Terry would have made them, they likely would still be intact!
